What does the charter offer?
The charter’s main focus is on surfing the uncrowded and pristine surf breaks on the Montebello islands. When the surf is not at its best there will be SUP touring, diving, fishing and exploring on the archipelago. All activities will be based around the conditions and we will have a variety of options in all weather scenarios. August is typically the best month for bigger swells with good waves periods. Because of its location it picks up many swells similar to Warra station and the Ningaloo coast. The majority of the waves are reef breaks that are commonly chest to head height. We will have a support vessel on hand to escort us to the surf and paddle locations. The mother ship also has a large pontoon mooring perfect for swimming and relaxing.
About the Montes:
The Montebello Islands are remote cluster of 174 islands approximately 150km off the Pilbara coastal town of Dampier. A stand up paddle boarding paradise, the archipelago has on offer; uncrowded surfing with multiple breaks, pristine beaches, barrier and fringing coral reefs, lagoons and channels with aquamarine waters that are home to a diverse range of marine animals. Dugongs forage amongst the sea grass beds and more than 10 different species of whales and dolphins frequent the area.
Aptly named Montebello (the Italian word for ‘beautiful mountain’) the islands form a conservation park administered by Western Australia’s Department of Environment and Conservation.
About the Crew:
Chad has been skippering fishing charters out the Montebello Islands for over 10 seasons and fishing at the Abrolhos for more than 16. He is also a keen surfer with a wealth of knowledge about the surf breaks and can get paddlers out to the best breaks to suit the conditions.
Leah is a passionate SUP paddler and fisherman and has a wealth of knowledge about the marine ecosystems, history and the environment of the Montebello islands. Her local knowledge of touring the islands by SUP will get our paddlers exploring the best locations.
Owner operator of Cracker Jack Paddle Sports in Karratha, Jac is one of the leading female SUP instructors in the state.
